Is this Blog Private?

To be completely honest, I could not define privacy in today's society. So I got the general definition from an article, “broadly speaking, privacy is the right to be let alone, or freedom from interference or intrusion. Information privacy is the right to have some control over how your personal information is collected and used.

Personally, I never had an issue with how much privacy we have or have not been given. I don’t mind the FBI or the government looking at my recent search history or the most recent Netflix show I watched (if they even do that) just because I don’t do anything worth paying attention too and I have nothing to hide. Many people argue that their freedom is the most important thing to them but personally, I value security over freedom. If the government is able to monitor and flag certain keywords such as “bomb” or “drugs,” and are able to use this to their advantage to keep our communities a safer place, then I am all for it.

Another issue that many people have is how much privacy they have on social media but the whole purpose of social media is to be social, to share information about yourselves to others. Many social media sites have options to maximize or minimize your privacy. You have the option to choose to make your account private or not so you can choose who follows you or who your friends are. You have the option to switch off where your location is. Most importantly, you have the option to choose and decide what you want to share on social media. You do not have to share anything you are not comfortable with and I think that many people forget this important aspect of social media.
