Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. The topic
itself, "Psychology of Social Media," was what grabbed my attention in
the first place. It seemed and was an interesting topic. I loved that your
teaching style involved many examples of videos and blogs and wished more
professors would implement that into their lectures. A lot of teachers will just
lecture on and on and have just words up on their PowerPoint which loses a lot
of peoples’ attention. So the videos and examples were a nice way to keep the
lecture interesting and refreshing. I also enjoyed that you included a lot of
class discussion in your course where you interacted with us, challenged us,
and had us interact and discuss with each other as well instead of just
lecturing the entire time. This was a nice change of pace and allowed us to
hear other peoples’ opinions and perspectives and also let us voice our own
opinions.
One thing I didn’t enjoy were the books that you
selected for us to read. I can honestly say that I didn’t enjoy any of them. I
don’t know if it was just because they were hard to follow or what, but it was
a struggle trying to read through and understand them. One thing that I would recommend
to help better the course is to add more psychology. I understand that we
connected a lot of psychology with social media but I felt that we barely
scratched the surface. Maybe look more into how social media can cause
addiction or increase narcissism on the cellular level (I’m a biology, pre-med
major so maybe I am being a little bit bias). Our weekly assignments such as
posting an article on Facebook, tweeting, and writing a blog seemed like just
busy work but I understand the necessity of it.
I really did enjoy the class and took a lot away from
it. It has definitely made me look at social media in a different way and in
some ways, has made me appreciate it a little more. Thank you for teaching this
class and I hope you have a wonderful summer.
