Facebook: Here to Stay or On its Way Out?

The in-class debate we had about the future of Facebook was very enlightening. It was very interesting to see both sides of the debate and some people brought up excellent points.
For me personally, it is hard to imagine that Facebook is here to stay. Everything has an expiration date and Facebook is no exception. Something new and better will eventually come along. Although Facebook's popularity is still trending upwards and may do so for awhile, other social meida sites like Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are trending upwards as well. You brought up an excellent point when you said pencil and paper had been around for thousands of years but we see today, that while it is nowhere near on its way out, other methods of writing are emerging such as tablets or even computers. I know many people who take notes on their tables and it is more efficient than rather note-taking.

One point that wasn't brought up in the debate that could have supported that Facebook is here to stay is that you invest so much into Facebook, more than any other social media site. This is mainly because of the way that Facebook is set up. It basically has all the components of other social media forged into one site. Someone once told me that using Facebook is like writing your autobiography and it is very accurate.

Personally, Facebook is dying down with me. I rarely get on and if I do, I am not on it for very long. I don't think I will ever delete it simply because I have invested a lot into it.

Psychology of Trolling

The whole concept behind trolling is that the users or "trolls" want to get a reaction or response from someone. There are many different kinds of "trolls" so each "troll" wants to get their own specific type of reaction or reponse. Some troll because they want to upset or anger other people. Others do it because they want to produce laughter.  There are six key factors on why there are trolls or why people are more likely to troll on the internet. First is dissociative anonymity which means you are able to hide your real identity online. The second is invisibility because you do not actually see the person you are trolling so it desensitizes your actions. How should you discipline your children?

I am not expecting to have children anytime soon, but I have thought about how I will discipline my children in the future. Coming from an Asian family, we were always discipline by this "thorn-like, bush" whip and it was very efficient. I, however; also grew up immersed in American culture so I know and have witnessed many of the tactics that American families have used to discipline their children. To be completely honest, I do not believe that there is one fool-proof way to discipline children. Each child is different and will respond differently to each disciplinary tactic or method.
